We met up with the artist causing waves around the world to discover her Focus Five.
WHO: in your life inspires you?
There are a few people for various reasons. But my God Father stands out, as I don’t think I’d be who I am or doing what I do now without him inspiring me. He is a creative, and has led an amazingly fascinating life that would make an epic movie. That’s inspiring.
WHAT: does your absolute achievement look like?
It doesn’t really have a visual it’s a state of mind, my ultimate achievement is to get to a place where I have no major worries nor do my loved ones. If I am to close my eyes and imagine how this looks I see a place I have somewhere warm in Europe near the sea where I can go with my friends and family for extended trips to relax and enjoy down time.
WHEN: is the next opportunity to take another step in the right direction towards your success?
Now! And everyday, I am always strategising in my head and thinking of ways to generate opportunities, build on existing relationships and better myself. One of the things I love about being an artist is you will never know it all. It’s very subjective and there is always new things to try and learn. I recently joined an amazing agency, which is something I’d been working towards for a while.
WHERE: you’ve visited that drives you to achieve your end goal?
Everywhere. I love to travel and every place inspires me weather it’s beautiful architecture, or new foods or colour or style or culture.
The opportunity to travel with my job or the fact it affords me to travel is an achievement to me as I see travel as one of the best educations I could have.
WHY: a memory of something you’ve done and WHY it pushes you to keep chasing after your dream?
The first time I worked on a film set was the British film, Kinky Boots. It was also the first time I’d been in any media based industry environment for work as a makeup artist.
I had just started in the industry with no experience or education in that field.
I remember calling my dad super excited that a light bulb had gone for me, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life.
One of the artists on the film was nominated for an Oscar, and I had no idea that was possible. I told him on that call, one day I will win an Oscar. That was almost 15 years ago, last week I signed to a movie based makeup agency.
